Rescue Stories

Ranger

We rescued Ranger as a foal.  His mom gave birth to him on a trailer headed to slaughter.  Ranger was able to be saved, but unfortunately his mom was not.  He came to us malnourished and scared.

However, with love and care, Ranger became a sweet, beautiful boy with a lot of personality.  He is now living his best life with his forever family.

Charlie

Charlie was at an auction known for the majority of horses going to slaughter.   His feet were horrendous, and each step was very painful to him.  He was depressed and appeared to have given up.  Nobody wanted him.  As the auctioneer was convincing the kill buyer to take him, I stepped in and made the one bid to save him.  I had no experience with donkeys at the time but knew I had to do whatever it took to give him a second chance.

Charlie was brought home and immediately began the road to recovery.  With proper hoof care and tons of love, he became a healthy (yet somewhat grumpy at times) fixture on our farm.  He lived the remainder of his life healthy and loved.

Scout

Scout was purchased by a kill buyer at a local auction.  She appeared defeated and scared and was seconds away from being loaded on a trailer headed to slaughter.  We were able to rescue her before she loaded onto the trailer.

It took time to build trust with her.  But today, she is a happy, beautiful addition to the family.

Beauty

Beauty arrived with Ranger after being born on a truck headed to slaughter. While their mothers were tragically lost, both foals were rescued. Beauty came to us very sick and malnourished, and despite tireless efforts to save her, she passed. Though her life was brief, she was deeply loved and will always be part of our story.

Cheyenne

Cheyanne was rescued as a foal from a situation where she could have ended up in slaughter, reminding us that even the youngest horses are at risk. After arriving healthy and full of spirit, she thrived in our care and has now found the perfect forever home. Cheyanne’s story is a joyful reminder that rescue works, and every foal deserves a chance at life.
